Aimée McLeod, Potter
I have been potting for about 25 years. It is obsessive, and I can’t imagine life without having my hands in clay. There are so many directions to take, I could never get bored.
Largely self-taught, I have over the years attended many conferences and wonderful workshops by other potters, and in 2004 completed the Diploma of Arts (Ceramics) by distance mode through the Australian National University.
My work is varied. I work in both earthenware and stoneware, which I fire at different temperatures in oxidation or reduction in my gas kiln. I love throwing multiples and large bowls on the wheel and carving fine bowls. I am playing with porcelain and exploring its translucence.
However, I also enjoy coiling, especially outside when it’s fine. Mostly abstract, they are now moving towards humanoid (alien?) shapes.
I belong to the Gear Homestead Woolshed Potters in Porirua, where I have taught night classes in both throwing and hand building. I am also available to take workshops. Currently I am in the throes of co-convening the 2018 Ceramics NZ convention and National Exhibition in Upper Hutt: www.expressiveceramics.co.nz
My work is available from various galleries in the North Island and I have an open day at home twice a year, usually the last weekend of November and February, exact dates will be advertised on my website. I welcome visitors any time, but please ring or email me first.
