Lambert, Deborah

Address: 26 Glassey Drive, Ashburton 7700 New Zealand
Phone: +64 226009263

Debbie over the years has travelled extensively throughout the country on painting trips and has had painting trips overseas to Italy, Prague, Austria, Hong Kong, Ireland to name a few, but she always happily returns home to her favorite painting ground.

Debbie has a strong desire to explore and paint on location, usually staying in DOC or farm Station huts or even tenting. Sometimes Debbie flies inland by helicopter to remote spots but more often she drives her (4WD) truck which has been specially set up, accompanied by husband or painting buddies to paint en plein air.

Debbie chooses to paint in both oils and watercolours depending on how she wants to interpret the scene.

After years of teaching both Primary and Secondary students, Debbie now chooses to teach painting skills and techniques to adult students Debbie has been guest tutor with many different art groups throughout the country as well as teaching in Ashburton. For her, the ultimate Art lesson is taking students outdoors and painting “en plein air”, so they understand and feel the connection with their surrounds, hearing the music of nature. Painting en plein air enables the artist to use all senses to paint their truth, capturing emotions and connections. Painting bares the soul.

Her recent painting endeavours have exposed her to sandflies, rapid changes of weather and the majesty of the South Island. She's rescued floating paintings blown into the water by sudden and violent winds and had her paint harden whilst painting above the snow line. But she's loved it all.

Debbie uses photos as a reference for her works, but prefers to paint in situ whenever possible. “Photos are flat and there's no depth of colour. But, painting on site means that colours are crisper, sharper and that there is an all round better colour reference,” said Mrs Lambert.

Over the past 20+ years Debbie has received many awards for her works which are in private collections both nationally and internationally.

If your art group is interested in booking a workshop or incredible Art Safari, please contact Deborah with your questions and enquiries.

Debbie is opening the doors of her home-studio for visitors to come and see her at work, share and discuss her art and commissioning paintings direct from the artist. Just give a call to schedule a visit.
