Jacky is fascinated by light and atmospheric effects which is the driving force for her to paint. She painted with oils for many years but has now become totally committed to the transparent effects of watercolours. Using, mainly a wet on wet and impressionistic, “alla prima” approach, watercolours provide the mood, sense of freedom and spontaneity that Jacky aims to convey in her work. She loves painting streets, full of life, but keeps coming back to maritime scenes as she has lived with boats since she was a child and now both her children are keen sailors. She undertakes detailed sketches and draft-paintings on site and completes her finished paintings in her studio.
Jacky was born in 1958 in the UK and moved to New Zealand in 1991. Jacky has painted and drawn all her life and following a career in environmental conservation Jacky now paints full-time. She has attended workshops with many of the worlds top watercolour artists. Solo exhibitions have included 40 paintings representing the complete series of all New Zealand's classical coastal lighthouses held in the Museum of Wellington, City and Sea. These were the originals from her series of the three Lighthouses of New Zealand calendars (2000, 2001 and 2003). This completed a five year project to capture, in watercolour, New Zealand's historic lighthouses, many of them dating to 1865. It involved helicopter, boat and 4-wheel drive trips to the various sites. Jacky also researched and wrote a history of all these lighthouses and interviewed many ex-keepers.
Her work is sold through Exhibitions Gallery in Wellington and Merivale Fine Arts Gallery in Christchurch. She has been a member of the national watercolour society, Watercolour New Zealand since 1995 and has exhibited at all their bi-annual exhibitions. Jacky represented New Zealand at the 2007 International Biennial Watercolour exhibition/competition and was subsequently selected to represent New Zealand in their permanent collection at the International Museum of Watercolours in Mexico.

Also in 2010 won the Royal Easter Show Gold Medal. Her work features in a book “NZ in Watercolour” October 2008 and she was selected from an international competition to be published in the American watercolour book Splash 11.
