Judy Rogers was born in England in 1955. She is a qualified teacher specialising in art. She emigrated to NZ in 1982 with her husband.

Judy has taught in schools and adult education in England and NZ as well as now having taught adults and children privately for many years.

She has lived in and loved various parts of NZ and is now settled in Christchurch. She has 2 daughters, born in NZ.

In 1987 in Kaikoura, she started painting for its own sake, not just related to teaching. Ever since, painting has been of vital importance and a significant part of her life. She paints portraits and other subjects of emotional significance to her or to other people. She usually starts with the real, with close careful observational drawings developing into often semi-abstract paintings.

Please visit and for more information.

She has studied more over the years, both formally and informally, including 2 years full time at Nelson Polytechnic School of Visual Arts in the early 90s. She has attended an artists’ critique group since 2006 which she finds hugely valuable for her work.

She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Christchurch, Akaroa, Selwyn, Kaikoura, Blenheim, Nelson & Palmerston North and had 3 works in NZ Portrait Gallery portraiture award exhibitions.

She paints in oils or acrylics, often sewing or otherwise forming canvas and other materials before painting – or painting on things that are already 3D. She is also very interested in creating environments for the viewer to be inside. Her large sculpture HEART IS WHERE THE HOME IS does just that.

Most of her work is for sale and she is happy to accept commissions to paint something or somebody special for you. Contact Judy via her website or using the contact details above and please always make an appointment before visiting.
